Identification of Allelochemicals with Differential Modes of Phytotoxicity against Cuscuta campestris

Cuscuta campestris is a parasitic weed species with noxious effects in broadleaf crops worldwide. The control of the majority affected limited or non-existing. We tested, for first time, effect eighteen metabolites vitro-grown seedlings. found that 2-benzoxazolinone, hydrocinnamic acid and pisatin caused strongest inhibition seedling growth. In addition to growth, necrosis seedling, occurring mostly at shoot. Scopoletin sesamol treatments toxicity, observed as black staining, only root apices, while caffeic acid, ferulic vanillic brown apices. structure–activity relationships four structural derivatives five were also studied. identification new herbicidal modes action against step creating alternatives sustainable chemical weeds.
